Cypher @ Jul 11th 2009 10:35PM
I love xkcd, but my vote goes to VG Cats.
MowDownJoe @ Jul 11th 2009 10:42PM
I should've read VG cats before voting... using Arceus, the God of the Pokémon universe, to NUKE THE WORLD! That's gold.
ZaxCG2 @ Jul 11th 2009 11:14PM
AUGH. Such a tough choice between the two. I guess VG Cats deserves it because "HOLY CRAP HE MADE ANOTHER COMIC."
Bagels: Commander in Chief of the lolcat sarcasm alert force. @ Jul 12th 2009 12:10AM
For the first time in a long time, I won't be voting for xkcd, simply because it contains Portal jokes.
And is it just me, or does it take an extremely specific formula for some of these comics to get in the wrapup? I mean I found Of NoobsAndMen to be an attrocious attempt at videogame topicality and/or humor. I've never really entered due to my lack of my strip's game relevance, but if I did I'd craft it with the specific things you're looking for.
I know I know, whine one one and whambulances.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 12th 2009 1:48AM
PREPARE FOR TROUBLE!
Virtual shackles almost gets my vote.
Virtual Orion @ Jul 12th 2009 2:35AM
First Manly McBeefington... next the world!
(I really liked digital unrest this week)
robothouse @ Jul 11th 2009 10:43PM
Damn, they're all so good this week! My vote goes to xkcd though; I had actually been pondering that thought for a while now...
Roto13 @ Jul 11th 2009 10:45PM
I like the Voltorb suicide bomber. :P My vote goes to xkcd, though. Lots of good ones this week.
Mr Khan @ Jul 11th 2009 10:47PM
VGCats just had the perfect build-up, though BitF, xkcd, DU, and PA were all good.
Anyone else notice that the blog feed under each DU has been stuck on something they did months ago?
The Baron @ Jul 12th 2009 6:09PM
Is somebody systematically voting down everyone who has something nice to say about VG Cats?
kill_strike @ Jul 11th 2009 10:47PM
hmmmm xkcd or vg cats
rTwelve @ Jul 11th 2009 10:53PM
I like how well synchronized the 4th panel in VG Cats and the last panel in Of Noobs and Men are.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jul 11th 2009 11:01PM
Wow, Digital Unrest FINALLY made me laugh....
Poisoned Al @ Jul 11th 2009 11:06PM
hehe, yeah, I thought the same.
LaughingTarget @ Jul 12th 2009 8:24AM
Same here. It just came out of the internet and slapped me on how random that was.
Beatz @ Jul 11th 2009 11:08PM
At first I was going to vote for Penny Arcade solely based on the fact that I had the same frustrating problems with 1943, but VGCats is too damn funny. Can't wait for the new Silver and Gold remakes to come out.
Premature ejaculation man @ Jul 11th 2009 11:14PM
I swear all poke'mon jokes were made by the year 2000 and have just been rehashed ever since.
Ashitaka @ Jul 12th 2009 8:44AM
And they weren't even funny by that time.
MRLN @ Jul 11th 2009 11:33PM
Every xkcd is awesome.
ArchiGamer [thephilosophyofgames.wordpress.com] @ Jul 11th 2009 11:38PM
Indeed.
Roto13 @ Jul 12th 2009 1:58AM
Yes. I'm just glad it's not usually a video game webcomic because then I'd have to vote for it every week. :P
deanb @ Jul 11th 2009 11:43PM
Well as I sent the link in for XKCD my vote this week will be bias.
Remember folks to hover over images!
[tre] @ Jul 12th 2009 12:29AM
Because of my uninitiatedness in the webcomic world (aside from a few Lunchbox Funnies comics), I would never had posted a comment on this post.
However, I came just to say this: I took about a week and did nothing but read Penny Arcade's back catalog (all of them!), and the whole thing is a work of art. Video game gold. Perhaps now I can move on to other gaming comics, e.g. the much-lauded-by-commenters XKCD.
And one more thing: I prefer playing tennis over eroding human souls, but that's just me.
deanb @ Jul 12th 2009 12:45AM
XKCD isn't a gaming comic.
It's a comment by a rocket Scientist ( no kidding, the guy who does it is ex-Nasa) which happens to include a few gaming references now n then. Not that it's not worth reading, its a habit of most readers to have google at hand so they can get the joke, and be all the smarter for it :P, though some still go over my head.
VGcats is relatively good, but it can be months between new comics now.
Sly @ Jul 13th 2009 3:10AM
xkcd is a masterpiece. i don't understand half of em, but the ones i do understand area AMAZING.
InFaMoUs1- @ Jul 12th 2009 12:48AM
BitF FTW!!!
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 12th 2009 1:01AM
Virtual shackles for me, simply because of the stupidity of the idea
Lance Icarus @ Jul 12th 2009 1:24AM
I went with Noobs and Men because God is totally a Pokemon master. I can't give it to VGCats though. He finally does a comic after two some odd months and what's it about? Pokemon, the game he has an entire side comic for. I wish after all that time he'd bring something else to the table.
mezzanine @ Jul 12th 2009 2:24AM
I got to 7-11 and there was a sign on the slurpee machine that said "Sorry! No more free slurpee. Come earlier next year! : )"
I had a nervous breakdown.
Giroro @ Jul 12th 2009 2:28AM
I went with VG cats, even though I'm a little disappointed he isn't using he Pokemon jokes in SUPER EFFECTIVE instead.
DU made me chuckle though.
Premature ejaculation man @ Jul 12th 2009 3:53AM
He already made a similar one in SUPER EFFECTIVE though...
Moofree @ Jul 12th 2009 5:07AM
PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWER!
(itty bitty living space)
oOWallaceOo @ Jul 12th 2009 11:39AM
+1 Now that is funny
Otis @ Jul 12th 2009 5:23AM
I'm sure I'm a jerk, but whatever. That Brawl in the Family comic is like, the least funniest thing I've ever seen. It's ALMOST so bad that it's endearing. It's like they tried so hard, and failed. Like seeing a little baby kitten trying to get up on a shelf it can't reach :x
Better luck next time, and keep on tryin'! Good luck!
Snowblind @ Jul 12th 2009 5:38AM
Loved Brawl in the Family. Digital Unrest wouldn't load, and the VGCats comic is very similar to one of his Super Effective ones, plus I feel it would have been a lot funnier if it were shorter, the last pannel was pretty funny, but did we need so many more building to it?
Bowser Rogozhin: Death of a Ladies Man @ Jul 12th 2009 6:10AM
Digital Unrest, easy. Penny Arcade and VG Cats were well too wordy.
Ghen @ Jul 12th 2009 6:45AM
I don't do pokemon. BitF was very witty, but I voted for XKCD because it always trumps.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jul 12th 2009 7:01AM
I voted for Brawl in the Family. Though VG Cats gets points for the Voltorb suicide bomber. I've never read XKCD I might have to start.
Ethan @ Jul 12th 2009 7:49AM
I'm just buying a 360 now, the xkcd is practically me.
I got a Pro, an extra pad, Halo 3, RE5, The Orange Box and Mass Effect for £220. Good, no? As a cheapskate sidenote I hear some people have used a cheap router connected to the Ethernet as an alternative to the wireless dongle, how's that going?
I think VG cats clinches it for craziness.
alienmastermind @ Jul 12th 2009 9:09AM
Not surprisingly, xkcd is getting tons of votes.
Penny Arcade this week was basically a Penny Arcade joke-kit they threw together on the tail of a five page guest comic (not as funny as other comics they've done).
Brawl gets my vote this week, because VG Cats...they've done enough with Pokemon already. The Pokemon jokes are tired, and I'd like for once to see other jokes get attention.
My comic wasn't included this week, because of the three I did, only one was about gaming...and it wasn't as funny as Friday's comic...which wasn't really about gaming at all
http://www.dipswitchcomics.com/114
Anyway, I laughed the second time I read Brawl, and xkcd always gets the same reaction from me...'Funny...but, who besides my AP Physics class would think so?'
Ghen @ Jul 12th 2009 11:50AM
omg!
MystileArmor @ Jul 12th 2009 10:14AM
I have to go with BitF, mostly just because seeing that fucker with his wrenches brought a sense of nostalgia and it was just silly.
Overall most of them were great, it was a bit of a tough choice.
tifosiotaku @ Jul 12th 2009 10:43AM
The only good thing to come out of VGCats, as usual, is the NeoGAF mocking...
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=367559
Snowblind @ Jul 12th 2009 11:40AM
Heh, nice to see someone agreed with me and trimmed it down to just three pannels, much better like that :)
I think some of those comments are a little harsh, but yeah, it's a very old joke that even he's done before, I don't see the point.
tifosiotaku @ Jul 12th 2009 8:04PM
I never found VGCats funny. Period.
OldElvis @ Jul 12th 2009 11:02AM
Digital Unrest's made me laugh out loud, so it gets the win. The VG cats art work looks great, but I have to go with what makes me laugh ( which of course is rare most weeks).
Dahk @ Jul 12th 2009 2:09PM
Haha agreed on that one. Now if only there was a game that allowed you to do that...
Mabui @ Jul 12th 2009 1:28PM
It was a tough choice, every week I open all the comics up in separate tabs and then close the unfunny ones and slowly keep closing them until I reach my decision. Of Noobs and Men and Virtual Shackles were the last two - so in the end I went with Virtual shackles.
Roto13 @ Jul 12th 2009 3:28PM
Oh god, the spam.
Meanwhile, completely on-topic and non-inflammatory comments are being voted down for undoubtedly stupid reasons.
sony boy @ Jul 12th 2009 4:00PM
i only liked the motion plus one.
