Battlefield: Bad Company 2 beta details this week, EA says
Posted Nov 3rd 2009 1:50PM by Justin McElroy
We were warned yesterday about phishers scamming folks out of personal info, promising entry into a Battlefield: Bad Company 2 beta that hadn't even been announced. It seems they weren't completely off the mark though, as EA told Blend Games that details about a BF:BC 2 beta would arrive this week. If you remember, GameStop recently posted -- then pulled -- a listing that claimed those who pre-ordered the game would receive entry into a beta starting November 19.
You know what this means, don't you? It's our worst fears made flesh: Online phishing scammers who can see into the future. Well, it's been nice knowing you, civilization.

Let me be the first to say....
WOOHOO BABY!!! I cannot wait to get my hands on this game!! :-D
Cash @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:18PM
Could someone tell me what exactly all of this has to do with Bad Company? I've seen trailer after trailer for this sequel, but the only thing they have shown in them are scenes from the multiplayer levels. Is this just an expansion pack for the multiplayer from the first game, or is this an actual, full length game with single player missions too?
DamonTheMoney @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:47PM
@ Cash
They're showing off the multiplayer first because they want the multiplayer to be the main focus of the game (in a true Battlefield style) and they're proud of what they've done with it. As for the singleplayer, yes there will be a campaign mode. They're just waiting a while before they talk about it because they want people to focus on the online segment, which is the most important part of the game.
But dude, "expansion pack"? Seriously? You obviously can't have seen any gameplay videos yet.
Also, why was that a reply to me?

Awesome, now we just need more people on PSN playing BC1 until BC2 comes out. It gets kinda lonely with most games being 2v2 or 3v3

@ DamonTheMoney
I feel the same way.

so do we get the warthog with the preorder too??
MrAlex @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:40PM
Uggghhh....
MrAlex @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:44PM
Actually, I won't leave it to other people to say.
Halo did NOT invent the military 4x4, this one doesn't even have a gun on the back yet you a drawing vague comparisons. Plus, the one in the picture is a REAL vehicle not something the art team have just invented, I seriously doubt that the armed forces based the idea on halo either.
Shmil @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:32PM
Calm down alex. It's a joke.
ripslymemc @ Nov 3rd 2009 7:02PM
thank you, schmil.

I wish BF games were released when Treyarch did their CoD games so i could really spend more time with Infinity Ward and DICE instead of their games cutting into eachother so much. If I could be two places at once, it would be playing both this and MW2.
Can't wait to play this!!
kentuckyfried @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:30PM
yeah, timing was unfortunate when BF:BC came out. It unfortunately got overshadowed by COD4.
rojosucio @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:22PM
If their hope is to deter some purchases of Modern Warfare 2 with a minor media blitz; well, good luck with that.
Dreaded Fear @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:24PM
It shouldn't have to, they are quite different shooters. MW2 is only infantry, with vehicles that come with killstreaks. Maps in MW2 are smaller and more compact, and there is more emphasis on close quarters combat.
Battlefield games have always been about vehicles, and infantry together. Maps are bigger, and the games generally have more players. Emphasis is different combat scenarios involving many things.
If you like shooters you will enjoy both, but both are quite different and have their own strengths and weaknesses. The biggest problem that is facing the Battlefield games -- at least on the consoles -- is that the community thrives for a month, and then declines. If you buy a Call of Duty or Halo, you are guarenteed many people will still be playing in 2-3 years after it releases.
(I'm basing these findings on Major Nelson's live activity ratings)
ZayCube @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:38PM
Do I need to preorder to get into the beta?
nofriendo @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:43PM
Man, alot of shit is going down in that picture.
Cyryus @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:46PM
O.o
Dude... I can't wait!!!
kyle @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:51PM

I love Bad Company! Awesome story, gameplay, and graphics. I can't wait for the full game!
Discotheque @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:32PM
Multiplatform beta? I want to check this out on PC/PS3.
Also to hell with Call of Duty.
Professor Lario @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:42PM
I just picked up the first one based on feedback I've seen on Joystiq. Looking forward to getting into it over Christmas break.
golobulus @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:39PM
i definitely want in on this.
Viol8tor Mode @ Nov 3rd 2009 5:34PM
After God of War 3, Bad company 2 is my most anticipated release for 2010. The multiplayer footage is just absolutely jaw-dropping.
I hope i score in the beta as well.

Fuck... I really want to play this, but I want to know if it'll feel as fun as Battlefield 2 did. In fact, I still play Battlefield 2. So far, BC2 looks like it'll live up to it. I just hope a Battlefield 3 doesn't come out too soon afterwards.
kentuckyfried @ Nov 3rd 2009 5:44PM
I just hope for BC2 that the health syringe is removed, and the equipment layout on the controls is slightly more logical (if I recall correctly, you couldn't map the controls to your particular tastes).
kentuckyfried @ Nov 3rd 2009 5:45PM
In other words, 1943 type controls + BF:BC environments = automatic win
Rob Bourne @ Nov 3rd 2009 5:57PM
I dunno, I thought the syringe was a good idea, made a change from auto-regeneration anyway, which almost every other fps out there uses.
I do think the controls need tweaking though, even once you've got used to them, they still don't feel 'right'.
Bailers77 @ Nov 3rd 2009 7:24PM
Okay, I hope I'm right about this, but I'm going to guess they dropped the syringe. There are defibs in the game, more like BF2. I am hoping they have dedicated medics like in BF.
Oh, and the blackhawk for me make this an instant must have. I can't wait!
