Dead Space tops on Riccitiello's list of faves
Posted Nov 6th 2009 8:00PM by Justin McElroy
When John Riccitiello needs to unwind from a long day as CEO of EA, he does it with dismemberment. That's the word from an interview with Fox Business in which Riccy (No? Well, worth a shot) names Dead Space as his favorite game of the past 12 months. We're assuming he's not talking about the Wii version of the game, since it's a statistical improbability that he owns it.
After his revelation that digital distribution offset retail sluggishness, the publishing boss went on to say it takes him around "50 to 60 hours" to finish a typical game. It prompts the question: Exactly how many times is he planning on fending off the necromorph threat?

That's easy, its considered the best game EA has ever published.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 6th 2009 8:05PM
A CEO playing the games he makes?
Maybe we should get Kodick to play MW, then have him play MW2.
Bubbameister33 (Confused by Fanboyism) @ Nov 6th 2009 8:09PM
Yeah and make him play that buggy ass Spiderman: WOS.
Phix @ Nov 6th 2009 8:10PM
Oh God, no! He'd freak out...
"We're giving away ALL OF THIS for ONLY $60?!"
then proceed to sell us 85% of the game in DLC format.
Special Agent Steve @ Nov 6th 2009 8:19PM
More like 95%. Your first gun starts out at 20$. Everyother gun costs another 20$. 50$ to unlock achievements. 10$ to make a save file. So, to start out, costs 160$.
Haon @ Nov 6th 2009 8:05PM
I have to agree that its one of my favorites in the past year too. Played it through about 3 times and I enjoyed them all. Too bad it didnt sell that well.
sonicspike41 @ Nov 6th 2009 9:14PM
I think that's what sequels are for. A lot of new IP won't sell as well as other more popular franchises even if it is good, simply because it's new. People don't want to chance a game when they buy it, and not everyone is going to read reviews and look for trailers of games before they buy them.
Now, Dead Space 2, or even Dead Space 3, those games should sell amazingly (at least I hope they do, I can't wait for more Dead Space and Mirror's Edge).
Haon @ Nov 6th 2009 11:11PM
Now I feel like an asshole for buying mirrors edge a couple days ago for around $10.
CH3BURASHKA @ Nov 6th 2009 8:13PM
Haven't played it yet, but the comic/animated shorts off of GT are goddamned brutal and amazing. I'll probably check the movie out as well, despite how bad I hear it is.
Kevin949 @ Nov 6th 2009 8:19PM
50 - 60 hours to beat a game? How bad is he at Dead Space to take that long?
Great game though! Easily one of the best in a while in the "survival horror" genre to come out. Up there with RE4.
jayeffaar @ Nov 6th 2009 10:41PM
Depends on what you mean by "beating it". Getting all the achievements requires several play-throughs.
Kevin949 @ Nov 7th 2009 9:49AM
Eh, I don't count that as "beating the game" because trophies/achievements didn't always exist and I believe we were still "beating games" back in the super nintendo era and such.
Durden @ Nov 6th 2009 8:22PM
Dead Space really scared the pooped out of me. It was good poop though...
Jesus (PSN: Luttdawg) @ Nov 6th 2009 8:35PM
I agree, it was an amazing game. Even though it came out like 5 or 6 months earlier, it showed Resident Evil 5 how a few things should be done.
gordo @ Nov 6th 2009 8:43PM
What, make Resident Evil 5: Extraction?
Oh wait...
Rodrigo @ Nov 6th 2009 9:04PM
Dead Space: Darkside Chronicles !!
Vman @ Nov 7th 2009 7:58PM
Resident Space: Evil Extraction 5!!
I love making collaborated names for games.

When asked for comment on his favorite game of Activision's, Bobby Kotick responded:
"I only get a few chances to play Guitar Hero on the DS when I'm not counting my money."
WREturns [Planeteer I Power of The Final Countdown] @ Nov 6th 2009 9:11PM
I don't really get all the Activision hate. I get that they're a huge company and that there are a billion version of "Guitar Hero" but do they make shitty games? I'm seriously asking here.
sonicspike41 @ Nov 6th 2009 9:11PM
For his last birthday his wife bought him an automated money counter, to count it for him.
He asked for the receipt, returned it, and told his wife, "Thanks, but I prefer to count my money by hand... thanks for the money though!"
The Baron @ Nov 7th 2009 2:36PM
Most of the Activision/Kotick hate is because of how he behaves and comes across in his statements more than just generic anti-corporate fist shaking.
EA have done their best to release some really top quality games in the last couple of years. Meanwhile, Kotick is telling his stockholders than he's basically rushing out as many games as he can in order to get profit from quantity and franchise exploitation rather than releasing quality products. It seems to have worked better (for him) than EA's position, which makes it even more alright to call him an asshole.
P.S. Kotick doesn't play games. He's said that much in interviews.
Hooded Miracle @ Nov 6th 2009 8:59PM
I tried the demo two days ago. I suck at it. I ain't TOO bad at first person shooters, but every time I started shooting, I'd run out of ammo before the enemies would stop coming and then I'd get mind-raped. ;_;
Odowan @ Nov 6th 2009 10:21PM
You must unlearn the headshot. Learn the dismemberment instead.
Reuben @ Nov 6th 2009 10:51PM
I had that happen as well when I first played the demo. I just had to stay calm, and aim for the limbs.
Petebot330 @ Nov 7th 2009 2:07PM
Yeah the demo killed me too. I've been meaning to give it another shot.
The Good Soldier Svejk @ Nov 6th 2009 9:04PM
Fun fact: Dead Space was released on October 14th 2008.
eNrique @ Nov 6th 2009 9:14PM
Even that it is an excellent game, very well done, I just didn't like.
It's not really my type of game when you dismember pregnant women or children.
I had nightmares because of it (seriously).
Collymilad @ Nov 6th 2009 9:46PM
Obviously a man with fine taste.
GL @ Nov 6th 2009 11:12PM
Dead space is a great game. I haven't had so much fun in a long time. Would highly, highly recommend this game to anyone who hasn't played it.
macabrearts @ Nov 6th 2009 11:53PM
Sweet! I just picked this up for 20 dollars last week, looks like fun (scary as heck though)
r4ds @ Nov 7th 2009 12:04AM
Thanx for the valuable information. This was just the thing I was looking for, the graphics are very nice... the game seems worth playing..... keep posting. Will be visiting back soon.(http://www.r4ds.com.mx)
vgxtremist @ Nov 7th 2009 12:47AM
Such a great game...I picked it up again for Halloween; the perfect game for such an occasion!
Courtney @ Nov 7th 2009 2:23AM
I think I screwed up my enjoyment of Dead Space by playing it through on Hard to start with. It was great until about halfway through, then it just got to be grueling. One of the very few times I've regretted starting a game on something other than Normal.
Kevin949 @ Nov 7th 2009 9:52AM
I found normal to be a bit too easy (though admittedly I did die a few times, mainly to my own stupidity).
COD4SHO @ Nov 7th 2009 11:38PM
Dead space was scarier than any movie ive ever seen.
