Microsoft hiring for Project Natal and Halo
Posted Nov 6th 2009 5:00PM by David Hinkle
A variety of new job listings have emerged on a Microsoft employment site, including positions for Project Natal and -- perhaps more interesting -- positions for a new Halo game. These listings for Halo, likely for Halo: Reach, call for designers, AI developers and animators -- even a multiplayer game design lead.
As for Project Natal, some listings point to "a large franchise," whereas others quote "an excellent next-generation" project -- which could be just about anything. We confirmed with Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb that the listings were legit, though he couldn't provide us with any more info beyond that.

I'll bet a damn dollar that saying the word "damn" wasn't damn necessary.
Dammit.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 6th 2009 5:33PM
Damn it, Taco? Why are you correcting the damn man!? He has a damn right to use the word damn, damn it! I'm so damn sick of you and your damned rules. Quit being a damn attack dog!
See? I can do it too!

I doubt those listings are for Reach...Microsoft wouldn't be hiring for Bungie. They're separate. Those listings would be for 343 Industries.
UNSCleric @ Nov 6th 2009 5:03PM
Took the words out of my mouth.
GazzaScotland @ Nov 6th 2009 5:08PM
Have you two been kissing?
UNSCleric @ Nov 6th 2009 5:19PM
I wish.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 6th 2009 5:22PM
*waves hand*
You do not wish for that. It will never happen.
Ridgecity @ Nov 6th 2009 10:12PM
That was sooo ga... mer!
N3rfherd3r @ Nov 6th 2009 5:07PM
Ahhh, Reach is almost to beta phase. And made by Bungie. Its not for Reach.
Banstyle @ Nov 6th 2009 5:16PM
Didn't they just cut a whole bunch of jobs at Games for Windows? I guess we know where the industry is headed. :)
RKN @ Nov 6th 2009 5:26PM
Surprised MS hasn't shut down that whole division, everyone knows exactly how much they care about PC gaming, just tell us how you really feel MS, stop beating around the bush!
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 6th 2009 5:28PM
Actually...this could be another internal team for Halo 3 PC. Similar to Hired Gun for H2Vista.
RKN @ Nov 6th 2009 5:45PM
I would positively be shocked if MS decides to port Halo 3 to the PC. They really don't care for it at all, 360 is their bread and butter.
Mika101 @ Nov 6th 2009 5:34PM
MOOOOOO!!!!!!! That damn cow isn't out of milk YET!!!!
Orchard Pear @ Nov 6th 2009 5:34PM
Hopefully the most important quality they're looking for in a new Halo team member is.. "How to innovate."
Halo could use it. =/
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 6th 2009 5:36PM
There has been quite a bit of innovation (Forge and saved films, anyone?). Comparing Halo to ODST is a pretty big jump. If yesterdays Reach shots are authentic, it looks like we're in for another round of innovation.
But I would say Halo needs new AI, along with a few other things.
LegendaryRedass @ Nov 6th 2009 6:33PM
I miss the elites :(
R (Planeteers | Power of Penile Pulse) @ Nov 6th 2009 10:48PM
Halo needs innovation? Halo is/was innovation.
Two weapon limit.
Regenerating health.
Standardized controls for console FPS.
Even if it wasnt the first to do the two weapon limit/regen health, it did make them big. Console FPS games still owe Halo a "thank you."
TJFadness @ Nov 6th 2009 5:48PM
Well that throws my theory that Bungie and Microsoft agreed to only let Bungie produce Halo games out the window. Oh well. I'm less inclined to buy it since Halo Wars was terrible in my opinion.
Gamer4Life @ Nov 7th 2009 1:26AM
You sir suck dog balls, Halo Wars was Awesome, one of the best RTSs I've ever played. In fact I was playing it just this morning.
TJFadness @ Nov 7th 2009 4:22PM
(This is TJFadness, but Joystiq has a really fucking annoying comment
system, so it used my email instead of my AOL account.)
I said in my opinion. I love the Halo franchise, and I enjoyed Halo
Wars to an extent.. but it could have been so much better. My biggest
issue with the game is that they basically remove the economy part of
the RTS series, and make it entirely the fighting. Not a fan of that
concept. If I could place my buildings and what not I would probably be playing it
right now.
Imaging lining up turrets, placing your important buildings farther
into your base, and creating levels of buildings that are less
important to protect the more important ones. Basically designing a base to fit all of your needs. If I could do that sort of thing, instead of using pre-defined lots, then I would absolutely love this game.
TJ @ Nov 7th 2009 4:24PM
Oh what the hell it used my email again? Fuck this. I created an AOL account that I can't even use, this is so annoying. I log into my AOL account when posting, and it uses my "Returning" account.
TJ @ Nov 7th 2009 4:24PM
Wow...
Monica Dickey @ Nov 6th 2009 5:53PM
I still just want to see videos of someone playing something on Natal that isn't flailing around to dodge balls or play bowling.
Not hating... I just think it would be funny to see someone trying to control a more complex game with their body instead of a control pad. :P
ChuckJ @ Nov 6th 2009 6:03PM
Why would MS be hiring for Halo: Reach? Bungie had control of that project and can handle it all in-house. They dont need MS to look for people to work for them.
The hire for a Halo game, is most likely for Halo project completely unrelated to Reach or anything Bungie.
SirDonShetland @ Nov 7th 2009 9:40AM
this is exactly what i was thinking. Reach's development is well underway, why would they just now start hiring the MP lead?
Caboose @ Nov 6th 2009 6:17PM
this will amke tea baggin fun :D
Skaz @ Nov 6th 2009 6:27PM
builds up your quads to boot
Katana Master @ Nov 6th 2009 6:20PM
It will be sad to see Bungie finish with Halo Reach.
stllgss @ Nov 6th 2009 8:12PM
you can hire me i have no experience in anything but tell me wat to do and ill try not to break it
fuzzynyanko @ Nov 6th 2009 9:34PM
Oh yuck. That entertainment jobs site is just a front for the main Microsoft careers site, and the two don't mesh well together.
Eric @ Nov 6th 2009 10:53PM
They're hiring for the follow up to Halo 3. See the legendary ending if you really think the series is over.
