Tony Hawk: Ride videos are in-game and out-of-game
Posted Nov 6th 2009 5:30PM by Griffin McElroy
We debated which of the two video assets Activision recently sent us for Tony Hawk: Ride should go a the top of the post, and which should be relegated to the unfavorable, post-jump real estate. The in-game trailer is pretty slick, and features that super catchy We Are Scientists jam. (You know the one, you hip guy, you.) However, the gameplay demonstration actually shows the peripheral being used to go on a "sick run," apparently part of a long-standing feud between Activision and Robomodo.
We decided to put the "sick run" at the top of the post, if only because we want you to know that this is exactly how we looked the first time we played the game at E3. Only we didn't crash quite so much, and also, when we finished playing, Tony Hawk himself came up and gave us a high-five with one of his giant hands. Check out the video above, then click past the jump to check out its neglected (but catchy!) brother.

Sigh...
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Nov 6th 2009 5:35PM
Worst cornrow physics ever.
Solace @ Nov 6th 2009 5:42PM
that and the fact you can still grind a rail FOR-EVER
ytilanigiroon @ Nov 6th 2009 6:04PM
My /facepalm was the corkscrew grind...
I put the TH series in the same place as Burnout for "car racing" games. The Skate. series is more like Forza; as close to an honest-to-God sim as the general gaming population will get without being absolute 'fanboys/girls' for one series or the other.
WiredKnight: Keeper of Threads @ Nov 6th 2009 6:12PM
...yea, but Burnout is actually fun.
Sly @ Nov 6th 2009 6:28PM
GT is even more sim than Forza. GT is almost pure sim. Forza has some arcadey aspects...
kornation @ Nov 6th 2009 8:41PM
I love the fact that it shows how behind the board controller is to the game is when he flicks the board at 1:36 (the board flicks round after the board is back in the straight position.) and how the caracter does a wierd glitch at 1:43.
So you haven't fixed your animation glitchs then Activision, lets see if this fixes its gameplay when its playable (if we can try before we buy at the retailers that is, not taking the risk without a taste of the reward.).
CheeziePotato @ Nov 6th 2009 9:21PM
Anyone remember the old Tony Hawk Pro Skater games? Those games were so fun. You could do so many fun, unimaginable, and fucking awesome tricks, but Ride looks like shit. Who the fuck wants to act like a fool on that board?
JACK @ Nov 7th 2009 2:29AM
@ytilanigiroon
*sigh* -_-
Why even bring other genres to this? And booooo.. that was lame analogy. I agree with Knight, Burnout is a great game and that's without licensed cars. It's pick up and play racing game, great and to the fucking point, which is racing with speed.
ZachDude @ Nov 7th 2009 11:22PM
@SpyderTaco Dude, those aren't corn rows. They are dread locks.
TheCoats @ Nov 6th 2009 5:35PM
NO TONY - NOT IN MY LIVING ROOM!
Monica Dickey @ Nov 6th 2009 6:27PM
This looks so lame.
Tony Hawk: Accident waiting to happen
NForever @ Nov 6th 2009 7:53PM
Seriously huh. Was anyone else waiting for this guy to biff it and send the board flying straight into the tv? They put it at ground level so I figured that had to have been the reason why, either that or they got too many down votes for showing the guy's face... idk.
Chillski @ Nov 7th 2009 1:17AM
hmm most things have to go thro so much red tape to make sure inventions like this never hit the market.... this is a guranteed lawsuit for sure. it looks like a normal person could easily injure themselves on this, so i cant imagene once it gets into the hands of a really lame, injury lawsuit prone person... lol
PR0F3TA (PSN - PROPHETA) @ Nov 6th 2009 5:36PM
that looks boring as shit
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Nov 6th 2009 5:37PM
Shit has a goal. This has nothing, not even a toilet to fall into.
st3v3n @ Nov 6th 2009 5:42PM
exactly what i thought. boring as hell. skate is actually somewhat of a challenge to pull of realistic and sick tricks. this is same over-extreme tony hawk, but it almost seems like an on-rails skater.
Solace @ Nov 6th 2009 5:43PM
Well this shit can fall into the bargain bin at wal mart
pearl @ Nov 7th 2009 4:52AM
agreed.
I didnt get the feeling of any intensity.
Im also all about the grab tricks. That was a grindfest.
didnt look like too much fun
Rhamsey @ Nov 6th 2009 5:37PM
Instead of people throwing their wii motes at TVs now they will be falling through them.
WiredKnight: Keeper of Threads @ Nov 6th 2009 6:11PM
It would be hilarious if the board had some force-feedback, and could throw the player off if they bail.
kavendano14 @ Nov 6th 2009 5:40PM
lol at the glitches
Guitar Hero @ Nov 6th 2009 5:46PM
Well, it looks like the highest scores won't be done by fat, un-fit gamers.
Hydrophobicfish (PSN: HydrophobicFish) @ Nov 6th 2009 5:47PM
One piece of props to the video... the guy was wearing the three keyboard cat moon shirt.
Though even then, that thing is kinda popping up everywhere that someone's trying to earn nerd cred.
fundando @ Nov 6th 2009 5:55PM
The song is The Geeks were RIght by The Faint. Did anybody actually buy this game?
russell @ Nov 8th 2009 8:48AM
I came in just to see if anyone else knew this was The Faint. I fucking love this song.
JoeStillLife @ Nov 6th 2009 5:57PM
yuck
Special Agent Steve @ Nov 6th 2009 6:04PM
I liked that band before I saw this video. Fuck you Tony Hawk.
No Kill Tayler @ Nov 6th 2009 6:04PM
If this was at a reasonable price, i'd pick it up.
Pantsparty @ Nov 6th 2009 6:14PM
So does my TV have to be sitting on my floor?
Seriously, This looks like shit...
DamonTheMoney @ Nov 6th 2009 6:23PM
I feel sorry for Tony Hawk (the man), he's had his name plastered on worthless shit for the last few years. Most people just see his name and think of the crappy games, not about what a talented skater he is.
Oh well, bring on Skate 3!!
AoE @ Nov 6th 2009 8:07PM
Don't feel too bad for him. I'm sure he only feels bad on the way to the bank, on the way out he probably feels pretty okay about it.
RagingStormX @ Nov 6th 2009 8:31PM
"Most people just see his name and think of the crappy games, not about what a talented skater he was."
Fixed that for you..... Tony Hawk and his games seems to have alot in common over the years if you ask me.
Darkfocus @ Nov 6th 2009 11:10PM

the first couple tony hawk games were actually considered groundbreaking and are some of the highest rated ps1 titles so I wouldn't exactly agree with that statement.
DamonTheMoney @ Nov 7th 2009 4:48AM
@ Darkfocus
I've played all of the Tony Hawk games, and I'd agree and say the first couple of games were amazing. I still have them in my collection.
However, when I say "the last few years", I don't mean all of his games. I was just referring from when Tony Hawk's Underground (THUG) hit the shelves. From then on, they were worthless shit.
The_Black_Circle @ Nov 6th 2009 6:25PM
Well Trevor...I tried to keep up like you said, but I had to stop the video before I horffed all over my keyboard.
NForever @ Nov 6th 2009 7:59PM
Props on the reflexes Black_Circle, however some of us weren't quite so fast... I'm going to be cleaning horf off my keyboard for days. ...thanks again Activision.
facebookkills @ Nov 6th 2009 9:49PM
T O O L
; )
DamonTheMoney @ Nov 6th 2009 6:26PM
I miss the STREET SKATER series!!!
Anybody with me on that?
Ohhthosesharks @ Nov 6th 2009 6:30PM
Nothing represents skating better than grinding and manualing non stop for hours and doing triple quad kickflips . This game is a joke!
Tep @ Nov 6th 2009 6:36PM
This looks like SSX on skateboards. Fuck this. I'll just buy Skate.
GordoJones @ Nov 6th 2009 6:39PM
WTF, the skateboard has no wheels. Am I missing something here?
AoE @ Nov 6th 2009 8:08PM
Apparently you are. It's a game controller, not actually a skate board. ;)
CaramelZappa @ Nov 6th 2009 6:55PM
Is that the faint?
Eh, this doesn't look fun.
NevilleThegame @ Nov 6th 2009 7:23PM
how does that like ur Skating.i hope Tony Hawk goes back to it's roots next yr. Tony Hawk 1/2(PS1) and 3(PS2) was the shit. the 2 Underground games wasnt bad. never played through a Tony Hawk game again. I dont like right Stick controls
Brad4815 @ Nov 6th 2009 7:23PM
Ah, I love the smell of an impending injury-related lawsuit.
wallywallas @ Nov 6th 2009 7:37PM
Haha, Activision sucks.
Luke @ Nov 6th 2009 7:59PM
I can't wait to skate as Kurt Cobain!
myspaceisevil @ Nov 6th 2009 8:07PM
lmao
u just won the interwebs
Rob @ Nov 6th 2009 8:14PM
Looks crappy. Give me a decent, ridiculous TH game like the originals without the gimmicky controller but the same degree of impossible, larger than life skating and I'll be happy.
